We offer technical assistance to development organizations, governments, and civil society actors interested in enhancing legal empowerment aspects of existing work, or launching new legal empowerment initiatives. Among other services, Namati is available to:
- Provide interested parties with guidance on successful implementation of legal empowerment efforts, and the monitoring and evaluation of these interventions
- Provide interested governments with guidance on legislative drafting related to legal empowerment, including the following themes: legal aid and recognition of community paralegals; community land titling; accountability mechanisms for essential services such as health, education, and water; integration of community participation into environmental regulation.
- Connect interested parties with the appropriate expertise in the field of legal empowerment for specialized requests
In 2011, Namati assisted Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangethan, a 25 year old grassroots women’s organization with 20,000 members across Kutch District, to develop a new legal empowerment strategy. The strategy aims to integrate law and rights into all the developmental efforts of KMVS in health, natural resource management, handicraft, and microfinance. It’s potentially a useful example of mainstreaming legal empowerment into development.
